I was just telling a friend and fellow music fan that for me one of the most exciting periods of music was from 1979 to 1981. Punk and Disco had a baby and out popped dance music with a punk aesthetic. In its purest and most genuine form you got Blondie, The Cars, and The Talking Heads. Sure, most of it was mindless pop music but that isn't such a bad thing now is it? I'll even site the likes of Duran Duran who made an impressive stab at combining Bowie glam and R&B till they became 80s pinup boys and lost the formula. In fact, I'd like to think that most of the 80s pop music scene never happened. The best stuff was underground for the most part. But that's a whole other can of worms.
